Abraham Gebremichael, an Eritrean American, who was born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to Woldeyohannes Gebremichael and Hirity Drar in 1973. His interest in art can be traced back when he was barely 4 years old kid. His brother Tesfalem Woldeyohannes ( martyr for in the Eritrean people liberation struggle) who was highly talented in art, taught him how to draw, paint and create art out of various materials. The valuable time Tesfalem spent with him during his formative years, left positive impact to appreciate, admire and live the beauty of visual art.

At the age of 17, Gebremichael sought to leave Ethiopia because of the endless wars and desperate realities inherent in living under a dictatorial military regime. In 1991, after a brief stay in Kenya, Abraham resettled in Orlando, Florida where he immediately embarked on the completion of his interrupted high school education. In high school, Gebremichael passion for art and the unique talents he demonstrated caught the attention of his high school teacher who gave him the necessary training and strong encouragement to pursue a career in art. Equipped with the right training and conducive environment, he began entering his works in art competitions and won many awards. Gebremichael talent eventually won
him an art scholarship at Seminole Community College and University of Central Florida where he graduated in fine arts with honors. He aims at pursuing his graduate studies at the University of South Florida.

Gebremichael work is characterized by brightly colored narrative paintings that are based on stories and situations from his life experiences. The images in his paintings and sculptures are intensely imaginative and symbolic of his reactions to his environment as that environment is impacted(both positively and negatively) by people. In this respect, Gebremichael work aspires to evoke a sense of order to a incomprehensible, chaotic world. The symbols and icons he uses in his work are personal. By not following traditions well entrenched in Western notions of art, Gebremichael is able to define himself both aesthetically and spiritually. Through the ever-expanding visual vocabulary of his work, he expresses his enthusiasm for life, hope and peace for all mankind.
